Lehigh Gorge State Park consists of 6107 acres with a steep walled gorge carved by the Lehigh River with rock outcroppings and waterfalls. The park follows the Lehigh River from the outlet of the U.S. Army Corps of EngineersFrances E Walter Dam at the northern end to the town of Jim Thorpe at the southern end of the park. Whitewater rafting, biking and hiking are popular activities in the park.
Whether you”re a novice mountain biker or an experienced pro looking to test your abilities, Jim Thorpe can teach you a thing or two. Start out easy on a beginner trail like Switchback, which is all downhill due to its former life as a gravity railroad route, then graduate to the advanced Twin Peaks. The 26 mile Lehigh Gorge Trail offers easy hiking and moderate biking along the scenic river.
Jim Thorpe is listed as one of the most beautiful small towns in America and has been named one of the top 50 places to live and play. It is a fantastic place to see the fall foliage and is a great recreation destination for adventure. The charming small town boasts shopping, crafters, musicians, artists and some most amazing restaurants for your culinary experience.
